L’instruction civique et morale « J’aime Haïti »
Published by the Brothers of Christian Instruction in partnership with the publishing house Henri Deschamps, the “I Love Haiti” was thus baptized after its update in 1987. “Initially, the manual was called Civic and Moral Instruction of the Brothers,” informs Pierre. And still with a view to teaching civics, the Brothers had mentioned the articles of the Constitution of the time.”
These articles written in the form of lessons that the child must learn by heart constitute the main criticism made of this book. “We no longer teach civics in this way today,” says the assistant director supported by her hierarchical superior, Peter Frisch. If they are present in the manuals, the articles are now there as documents, says the president and CEO of Henri Deschamps. “We ask questions about the articles, answers are provided to help the student understand what is going on. But the student no longer has to study them.”
